Halloween is fast approaching – but with so many places to choose from, it’s no wonder that so many of us are stumped on where to go and how to celebrate. That’s why we’ve handpicked some ‘fang-tastic’ days out to help make your decision a little easier.
The Isle of Wight: The little island located just off the south coast of England comes alive during Halloween half-term. Often referred to as ‘ghost island’, the Isle of Wight is one of the worlds top 10 most haunted destinations. Every year the island hosts several spooky events, which offer something for all the family. For the little ones, there’s Tapnell Farm, the ideal pumpkin picking spot. And for those budding historians, there’s Carisbrooke castle, an English Heritage site that promises a ‘bewitchingly’ brilliant day out. With creepy crafts, a witch-themed quest, a fancy-dress competition and the chance to meet some snakes, spiders and other creepy crawlies – what better way to keep the kids entertained?! For any thrill seeker, Blackgang Chine is the place to go this Halloween. Terror Island is this year’s attraction and promises to leave you shaking in your boots.
Edinburgh, Scotland: The Capital of Scotland is an ideal half-term hotspot, offering the perfect combination of medieval elegance. Home to the Edinburgh Castle, which is thought to be one of the most haunted places in Scotland, this is the ideal destination if you fancy a scare. Within the city, you’ll find The Ghost Bus Tour which merges gothic storytelling and facts with comedy and an opportunity to do some sightseeing. There are also the Edinburgh Dungeons, nestled deep in the heart of the capital. Here, you can explore the cities dark past and meet infamous characters such as Burke and Hare. ‘Escape Edinburgh’ offers perhaps the best escape room experience in the capital. It tests the wits and comradery of you, your friends and your family. You can choose from an array of games, however, if you do fancy one with a Halloween twist, why not try The Magic Emporium or Carnival of Curiosities?
London, England: Halloween has become an increasingly popular celebration in the UK. With theme parks, haunted houses and mazes, putting on themed events to mark the occasion, it means finding somewhere close to go is just a google away. Thorpe park’s fright night has become an integral part of Halloween in the UK, with family and friends braving it together, experiencing rides, mazes and attractions that promise to get your adrenaline pumping. For those with little ones, pumpkin picking is a great day out and sure to put smiles on their faces. These farms are dotted around the UK, so with a little research you’re sure to find one not too far away. Lastly, those after a spooky Halloween night out and chance to dress up, London is sure to be bustling with fancy dress goers, with events such as Ministry of Sound, the Halloween Penthouse Party and Halloween Oktoberfest you’ll be spoilt for choice.
