With many brits now deciding to explore more of their home country, be it for a summer holiday or to visit family, it is important to understand that travel insurance is still a necessity.
Whilst we have the NHS here in the UK, the cost of flights and accommodation can soon mount up and you do not want to be left out of pocket should you need to cancel. So what travel insurance should you be looking for?
The majority of travel insurance companies will offer cover for trips within the UK as long as the trip is a minimum of two nights, three days and you are staying in pre-paid accommodation or commercial accommodation.
Those who are going to visit and stay with family may not meet the required criteria which could be a problem when it comes to finding a suitable travel insurance policy. Travel within the UK particularly if you are flying can still mount up, so it’s understandable that more and more people are expecting this cover under their travel insurance policies, and are left disappointed when their chosen travel insurance providers can’t offer cover.
The good news is, there are a limited number of travel insurers that will cover trips within the UK without any restrictions on period of time or accommodation – so if you are travelling to visit and stay with family, it may be worth looking for one of these policies. However they aren’t commonly available so you may need to do a bit of searching around to find them or contact the insurance providers direct and ask if they can provide the cover you need.
