As a result of the constant changes in travel advice, many Brits have this year opted to enjoy a holiday here in the UK.
Several campsites and campervan rental holiday providers have reported a surge in the number of bookings for this summer, as families decide against foreign holidays. So much so, campsite bookings are up by nearly 500% in some parts of the UK, and reservations for campervan and motorhome spots have increased by almost 189%.
The decision to stay in the UK this summer, rather than book somewhere further afield, comes as no surprise given the UK government has already added and then later removed one popular holiday destination from its green list, causing chaos for those with trips departing in the next few weeks.
However, while a holiday in the UK may appear to be the ‘safe’ option for those desperate for a getaway, it is still essential that holidaymakers protect their trips with travel insurance.
A ‘UK-specific’ or ‘staycation’ policy is a great way to protect your trip from any unfortunate mishaps that can happen while you’re away. For example, some staycation policies will offer cover for any accidental damage to rental properties, they may also offer cover for vehicle break down should your car conk-out on your way to your holiday destination, and some even provide a benefit if you arrive late to your holiday destination, for example, as a result of bad traffic.
Additionally, many UK or staycation policies now also protect against disruption caused by Covid-19. For example, most policies offer cancellation cover if you or a member of your travelling party catch Covid-19 prior to travel and can no longer travel. Some policies even offer a benefit should you catch Covid-19 while on your trip and have to isolate in your holiday accommodation.
Of course, the cover included in a travel insurance policy will vary between providers. Therefore, we would always recommend reading the policy wordings to make sure you’re 100% happy with the cover included.
