Jet Airways is the latest airline in a string of companies to declare financial difficulties this year. The Indian carrier has announced that it is in millions of pounds of debt and is seeking emergency funding in order to continue operating.
Suspending all flights since Friday 12th April, excluding a few regional flights, until Thursday 18th April, we cannot be certain scheduled flights beyond this time will take off.
The airline has been speaking with customers via social media and has commented that services will resume.
Passengers that have been affected by the cancellation and are stranded in India are being advised to seek alternative routes home, and check their travel insurance for scheduled airline failure. With this cover they should be able to claim back reasonable travel expenses but restrictions will differ between providers.
If the airline does go into administration, other airlines are likely to provide ‘rescue tickets’ for flights home to the UK at discounted prices.
Alternatively, those who booked through a credit card or package holiday should speak to their provider for assistance.
