As more tour operators introduce cruises around the UK – becoming fondly known as ‘seacations’ – as part of their summer itinerary, some travel insurance providers have noticed an increase in insurance-related inquiries for UK-only cruise holidays.
Cruises around the UK are set to be popular this year as more people opt for a holiday closer to home. Seacations offer all the benefits of a ‘normal’ cruise holiday, including luxury dining, live entertainment, and the chance to explore different cities as the ship stops at each port, only it comes with the bonus of not being too far from home – which after the year we’ve had offers that little extra peace of mind.
As with any holiday, Brits must protect themselves with adequate travel insurance before they set off. Therefore, anyone looking to embark on a ‘seacation’ or UK-only cruise should look for a policy that includes cruise cover or offers a cruise extension.
It’s also worth being aware that some travel insurance providers have recently introduced protection for seacations or UK-only cruises as part of their ‘staycation’ policies – after all, it is still a holiday in the UK and cruising often poses an additional risk to travellers. Therefore, we would recommend comparing cover levels as they may work out cheaper than a ‘standard’ cruise policy.
As always, we urge holidaymakers to make sure they’re happy with the level of cover included in their policy wordings before they buy a policy and to get in touch with their insurance provider if they have any concerns.
