…but are your tickets covered?
The Ashes – the test cricket match between England and Australia – gets underway today and will run until January 4th 2018, both countries will be battling it out over five test matches to claim victory. The Ashes is a popular sporting event so whether you’re a cricket fanatic or are no, you are likely to hear updates just about everywhere.
So, what is the running order for this year’s Ashes?

Now, many sporting fans will have already purchase their tickets and already be settled into their hotels down under – but what if you were to fall ill and were unable to using your pre-paid tickets?
The cost to attend each Test Match based on the price of the remaining tickets on the official Ashes website comes to just over £300 – add that to accommodation, flights, spending money, transport and other associated expenses and you are easily looking at a small fortune.
So, will your travel insurance cover the tickets if you cancel your trip or are unable to use them due to illness?
With regards to cancellation, this will depend on how the tickets were booked. If they were purchased as part of a package holiday (e.g. you booked the tickets, flights and accommodation with one provider) then standard travel insurance may be able to offer cover for any non-refundable expenses, however if you booked the tickets individually they are not likely to be covered.
However, there are some policies that will offer to cover your tickets if you either have to cancel or are unable to use them, but be sure to read the policy wording carefully to make sure the cover level is adequate for the ticket price.
Cricket enthusiast will probably have already booked tickets well in advance and made sure their travel insurance covers them covers them – but for those booking a last-minute trip, make sure you are fully covered so you are not left out of pocket should the worst happen and you’re not able to make your trip or the game…
