Passengers will face major travel disruptions as Bakerloo Line drivers’ stage two 24-hour strikes in a disagreement over timetable changes.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, who operate the Bakerloo Line, plan to walk out from 11:59 GMT on Friday 21st February 2020 and again at midday on Sunday 23rd February 2020.
A Transport for London (TfL) status update says:
“Customers should complete journeys on the Bakerloo line by 12:00 on Friday. There is likely to be little or no service until Monday evening, with delays to any service that is operating.”
A full service is not likely to resume until Tuesday 25th February 2020 and although the strike action will only be taking place on the Bakerloo Line, the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines will also be closed to test a new signalling system on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd February 2020.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash says:
“Drivers voted overwhelmingly for action in this dispute which is all about the management imposing timetable changes on the Bakerloo line without any serious recognition of the stress impact on the operators expected to implement them.”
The director of London Underground’s line operations, Nick Dent has responded by saying the walkouts are an “unnecessary disruption” and that the RMT should “continue working collaboratively to resolve these issues.”
The Northern line between Moorgate and Kennington will also be closed due to work on the Bank Station upgrade.
Those who are due to travel on affected services should plan to complete their journeys using alternative routes or transport. If commuters have already purchased tickets, they may be entitled to a refund however they will not receive compensation.
