The dreadful news of a mass shooting that left 59 people dead and hundreds injured at the Route 91 music festival in Las Vegas, USA on Sunday 1st October 2017 has, naturally raised concerns amongst those who are about to travel to the USA.
Las Vegas is a popular destination for UK travellers, with at least 20 flights per week from London and Manchester.
After the initial flight diversions due to Las Vegas McCarran International Airport being temporarily closed, flights are once again operating as normal.
Even though the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has not issued any warnings about travelling to either the USA in general, or Las Vegas in particular, many people may feel nervous about travelling there. Some, who may already be abroad may want to come home early.
If either of these are the case, what cover can you expect from your travel insurance policy?
Curtailment Cover
Unless medically necessary, your travel insurance policy is not likely to offer cover for curtailment following this incident.
Cancellation Cover
For those who are travelling to Las Vegas in the near future and now wish to cancel the holiday, we recommend you read your policy wording carefully. The majority of travel insurance policies will not cover for cancellation due to disinclination to travel, or the fear of an event happening.
