As an increasing number of regions across the UK are placed into higher lockdown tiers, thoughts have turned to how these restrictions could affect those who have an upcoming holiday.
Even though millions of residents have been advised not to travel outside of their area and warned that they will be breaking the law if they do so, a number of tour operators and airlines have revealed that they won’t be providing refunds to those affected by the tougher restrictions.
However, a handful of well-known travel providers have said that while a refund won’t be available to those impacted by local lockdowns, they will allow customers to be flexible and change their trip dates, without an admin fee, until November 30.
As it stands:
- those in a tier 3 restriction are advised not to travel outside of their area
- people living with tier 2 restrictions have been told to only travel with members of their household
- and those in tier 1 must not travel in groups of more than six
Anyone who decides to change their trip dates must make sure that they also update their travel insurance policy. Most travel insurers will be able to make the necessary changes to the policy completely free of charge, as long as the trip duration and destination stays the same.
As always, if you have any concerns over your cover, please do contact your travel insurance provider directly.
