At long last it seems that a summer holiday may finally be on the cards. The news comes as Boris Johnson revealed a four-phase plan for how the UK will emerge from the current (and hopefully last) lockdown.
So, when and where can Brits enjoy a holiday?
Well, according to the UK government, from April 12 self-contained accommodation such campsites and holiday rentals will be able to reopen for single households only. This means that as long as you’re planning a trip with the people you live with; you’ll be able to enjoy a Great British staycation just after the Easter weekend.
Hotels, hostels, and holiday parks are then expected to open for breaks shortly after on May 17.
International travel could also be on the cards from May 17, however the exact date the Foreign Office lifts the travel ban will depend on the findings from a Global Travel Taskforce, who are set to provide the government with recommendations on how the UK can resume international travel on April 12. We believe more clarity on foreign travel will be issued then.
Additionally, the UK government also revealed that they are working with countries who have started similar vaccine programmes to the UK and are exploring options, such as the vaccine passport, to allow UK passengers to travel abroad once again. While exact dates for international travel are not currently set-in stone, it’s good to know that a summer holiday is finally on the horizon!
Understandably, Brits will be keen to get their holidays booked as soon as possible. However, it is important to make sure any trips booked (either abroad or here in the UK) are protected with the adequate travel insurance, just in case they no longer go ahead.
