Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge and her husband, Prince William, are pleased to announce they have had a baby boy, the name is yet to be confirmed. Katherine, has given birth to her third child at 11.01am on Monday 23rd May 2018.
Over the last few weeks Katherine has taken a step back from her engagements and public appearances in order to prepare for the new addition; with the young family now living in London’s Kensington Palace, she has kept herself close to St. Mary’s Hospital.
With ‘babymoons’ on the rise, expectant mothers are now choosing to head abroad for one last holiday before giving birth. Before heading on holiday, there are a few things you should bear in mind: whether this is your first baby or your third, you should always check with your midwife and GP before you book your holiday to make sure they are happy for you to travel.
Once your midwife and GP have confirmed you are fit to fly to your chosen destination, the next step is to speak to your airline and travel insurance company to make sure they are happy to a) allow you to travel and b) provide you with a travel insurance policy.
After week 28, most airlines require a letter from your midwife or GP confirming:
You’re in good health
You have a normal pregnancy
The expected date of delivery
Be aware that your GP may charge you for the letter.
Most travel insurance companies will cover for medical expenses related to pregnancy up to week 28 and only cover after this period if a complication arises. Read more about travelling whilst pregnant and the travel insurance cover you can expect.
Fortunately for The Duchess of Cambridge, planning ahead has worked well and she had the baby in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, where she had her two other children, Prince George in 2013 and Princess Charlotte in 2015.
